"PHYSICIAN EXTENDERS"
Millcreek Women's Center is fortunate to have on staff Patti Allsop, CNM, and Lisa Wilkerson, PA-C. They are able to see patients on the same or next day for urgent problems, as well as for scheduled preventative exams and management of less urgent problems. They are able to perform much of what the physicians do, with the exception of complex problems, surgery and deliveries. Their expertise at Millcreek enables women to have ready access for a wide variety of issues, including abnormal bleeding, infertility, gynecologic pain, breast lumps, consultation about contraception and consultation about menopause among other issues. They may also, periodically, perform some obstetrical visits. Patti and Lisa act under a physician's direction in coordination of care. When circumstances mandate, or at a patient's request, consultation with a physician will be arranged.
The patient always has the option of scheduling with a physician. However, physician extenders are able to see patients whose providers are delayed due to deliveries, emergencies or urgent problems that may arise in the clinic.

A CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE (CNM), such as Patti is a registered nurse who completes a masters' program and passes a national test in women's health management. While CNM's are trained to manage obstetric patients and deliver babies, at Millcreek Women's Center, only the physicians deliver babies. Patti has extensive experience as a Labor and Delivery nurse for many years before completing the midwife program at the University of Utah.

A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT (PA-C), such as Lisa , has a degree from a certified PA program and is trained in management of the patient, excluding surgeries and the delivery of babies. A PA undergoes a national examination at the completion of their training and six years thereafter. Lisa worked for six years as a medical assistant while attending college. She completed her education through the University of Utah Physician Assistant program.
